Over the last couple weeks I've been developing a live a show, and the other day I recorded one of my studio sessions. It's hard trying to play electronic music live, and there are a lot of different ways to do it. I developed my live show from what I've seen from a lot of different artists like Ratatat, Simian Mobile Disco and Fuck Buttons. This is almost all new music, and this is a good indication of what my next album is going to sound like. It's a good half an hour, so sit back, relax and enjoy.
Fuck Buttons was one of those groups that I heard whispers about for a while before I actually checked them out. I'd given them a couple cursory glances in the past, but a couple months ago I finally sat down and listened to Tarot Sport, and was totally blown away. Fuck Buttons does what is so hard to come by in music today, they make original music, that while it's influenced by things in the past, doesn't try to imitate anything.
Their musical style is something like Explosions in Sky meets MSTRKRFT. A style I like to call Postro (Post Rock + Electro). Unfortunately I haven't seen them live , but from what I've seen online they have an amazing live show, that translates exactly to what they do on the album by layering what seems like tons of midi synth arpeggios. They've got some killer remixes as well, and I hope they start doing more in the future, make sure to check out their remix of Fever Ray's If I Had A Heart. All in all do yourself a favor and check out Tarot Sport.
While I was looking for some new music the other day I stumbled across the group TeamNate. I downloaded their demo CD. After a listen or two I found that I kept getting their song Do What We Say stuck in my head, so I ended up contacting to see if they'd be interested in me doing a remix and it turns out they were.
Well that's the story of how it happened, as far the actual remix itself here is some of the thought process. I don't really have a signature style like a lot of other remix artist do, so when I do a remix I tend to just try and do something really different from the original. With the TeamNate remix I tried taking an upbeat dance and making it into a heavy slow song, and here it is: TEAMNATE - DO WHAT WE SAY (WOLVES REMIX) _ (original)

I just went and saw the Magical Properties Tour this weekend with Daedelus, Jogger and Nosaj Thing. The show was amazing, and I highly recommend checking it out if it comes to your area. While they were all great, I really dug the shit out Nosaj thing. My bud Devin (aka Lion, ROAR!) turned me onto him a couple weeks ago, and I've haven't stopped listening to him since.
The really interesting thing about him was that on his album everything seems pretty slow and laid back, but live me makes his stuff insanely danceable. I also love how his music sounds so dense and sparse at the same time. His music is definitely influencing the new remix I'm working on, and it definately shares some traits with the new music I'm making.
This song has been popping up all over the place recently. It seems like every time a movie wants to have a really happy scene they throw this song in there. I'd heard this song before, but when I stood up and took notice was when it appeared in Step Brothers. I thought the Bass/Piano line at the beginning would make an amazing dance riff.
This was not a quick remix. This probably took me three months from start to end. I did a whole other version that I had to pretty much scrap and redo the entire lead part. I wish I could have gotten an accapella to put it a little bit more more vocals in there, but at the same time I think this version works really well.
I'm going to start posting all my new music stuff here. I have a ton of music on my computer that I want to start posting somewhere. The posts should be about once a week. The first song should be posted tomorrow. The blog is a work in progess at the moment and should be a little fancier in the coming days.
You can check out all of my older music at my WEBSITE or you can use the quick links to the right.
I'll also be doing a little posting of other people's music here and there.
I write comics that no one cares about. I make music that no one cares about. I wish I lived the in the village from the prisoner.
And now I make Podcasts with my friends that only a couple people care about.
